LFS|US host two case competitions every year where teams of students create solutions to issues surrounding climate change and sustainability.
The Feeding 9 Billion Challenge is
a case competition style, interdisciplinary challenge where teams of students create sustainable solutions to local food system issues over the course of an eighteen-hour period. The event challenges students from different disciplines to work together to tackle a problem related to the food system, ranging from production to distribution and everything in between. This event is in partnership with the Commerce Undergraduate Society!
When: November 16 11am-November 17 11am
Where: Engineering Student Center
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and plenty of snacks will be provided!
Cost: only $10!
Teams will have between 3-5 members, and must be made up of at least 2 different faculties.
Students have no barriers in what their solution looks like: they can create a business plan, or propose an education program, or even develop a new way of producing food. The only requirement is that it can be applied at a local level and works towards creating a greener future. Students have the opportunity to be mentored by professionals and experts in the field of sustainable food systems as well as network with their peers.
Total cash prize money ($1,750) awarded to the winning teams to provide funding that can change their ideas into long-lasting change. The overarching goal is to promote social, environmental and economic sustainability by improving local food security through innovative solutions with lasting impacts.
